Kidlitosphere!!!
Fun was had by all at the 1st Kidlitosphere Conference this Saturday in Chicago. I have been forgoing things authory lately due to BIC (Butt In Chair) but DH convinced me that I should go to this and I am soooooo glad that I did!
WHAT
Imagine a room full of cool blogging/writing/book people.. Heaven!!! Mark Blevis has a ton of photos here . Once again, I part of me was in a few pics. And I did have my daughter's cool digital camera but I remembered it afterwards in the parking lot. Many people have blogged about the event. Kelly Herold (Big A, little a) has great info and links here.
INFO GLEANED
I have to work on my blog exposure and implement some type of stat counter!!!
I have to get www.got-art.com up and running. The website will have arty kid book reviews and arty toy suggestions as well as all things arty!!! (This has been percolating for a while... now I have to create!!)
Can I say this?? I learned a great blogging mantra.... "Don't be a Dick!" Did I just say that??? (It has also become our family mantra, now!)
Podcasting 101 with Mark Blevis and Andrea Ross!
FRIENDS
I hung out with friends Kim Brunner (my SCBWI-LA roomie and fantastic writing supporter)
kbrunner, Esther Hershenhorn, and Cynthea Liu
cynthea. (And, believe it or not, she is even cuter with the little 'bun in the oven' aka Snoop's new sibling!!!)
I talked with/ reconnected with cool author friends Brenda Ferber, Amy Timberlake, and Steven Layne.
I finally got to meet Ilene Goldman. I was one of the bloggers that she featured in her Prairie Wind article last month, here.
NEW FRIENDS
Tracy Grand (CEO of JacketFlap) is very cute, smart, and creative. I was one click away from listing last week. She insisted that I join the group "You would be perfect!" (I love supportive people!!!) I also got a cool JacketFlap baseball cap!!! (We had a great chat about LA... Now I really want to move back!)
Esme Raji Codell said that she kept staring at me because I looked like another author's sister. Hmmm... I won a copy of Vive La Paris. Cool!
Nnedi Okorafor-Mbachu is so cool and I'm so glad I got to meet her! She blogged about something recently that I wanted to respond to... must have been something arty!!!!!
And Laini Taylor, Jim Di Bartolo, Andrea Beatty, Micol Ostow (I got an ARC of Crush Du Jour!), Jenny Meyerhoff, Gregory K. Pincus (who I have seen in LA but never met!!), Chris Rettstatt, Katie Zenke, Ysabeau S. Wilce, and many many more cool people.
NEW ARTY FRIENDS!!!!!
I am so glad that I met Barbara Shoup! I've been meaning to check Vermeer's Daughter out of the library but it is always out. She gave me a copy!!!! It is so sadly out of print. We talked all about art and writing about art. AND get this, she studied painting in Italy in this summer!!!! My review of Vermeer's Daughter will definitely will be on my got-art website!!!!!
Oh, oh, oh, I can't wait to see Ruth Spiro's new book Lester Fizz: Bubble Gum Artist!!!!! We sat together at lunch and I was so excited when she told me about the book. And then, her author give away was a little cute bag of gum balls with a little wonderful drawing from the illustrator!!!! I can't wait to review this book for my got-art website!!!!!!!
THANK YOU!!!!!
Huge thank you to Robin Brande for hosting (and organizing) this event. Everything was perfect!!! Thank you to Esme for hosting the author portion. The beautiful poster/artwork that we all received was wonderful!!!!! I sadly only got to talk to/meet about half of the group... hope to see you all next year in Portland (Oregon) and, of course, on your blogs!!!!!!

Don't even try to take away my title!!!
Weird but I didn't receive a notice that you posted. I have tried all night to add Site Meter so I hope I didn't screw it up!!!
May have to have super computer dude DH to help... but I thought that I could do I myself!
TTFN!!!!!!
Sitemeter and I had words!!! I sent help emails to the Queens of LJ out of complete desperation! It isn't rocket science! But alas, DH said that he would help me this weekend... to be continued...

Thanks for coming by my blog and bonking me over the head to say: we KNOW each other! Rats. We should have connected in Chicago. It was just too short. Ah, well, next year will be longer...and maybe since it's West Coast, Mac can be there too.
Cool blog, BTW. Love the name.
