The Hate Meme

Okay, I'll play the current meme that is making the LJ rounds...

HERE GOES:

1. I hate the color....
2. I hate the TV show...
3. I hate the taste of....
4. I hate the smell of....
5. I hate the word....
6. I hate the sound of...
7. I hate the song...

MY ANSWERS:

1. I hate the color puce.
I really don't hate any colors... but the word puce is just plain weird.

2. I hate the TV show Reno 911.
We lived in Reno before moving to Chicago. There are just so many things wrong with this show. (And for some strange reason my family likes to stop and watch while channel surfing.

3. I hate the taste of unripe Persimmons.
Persimmons have to be really really really ripe to taste good. I bought and tried them twice! I have read poems and essays about the awful taste of the unripe persimmon.

4. I hate the smell of vomit. (Thanks to [info]carriejones for giving me the reminder.)

5. I hate the word Shut Up.
That word was a major taboo in my house growing up. Shut up is like a slap in the face to me now. (Yes, I know that's two words!)

6. I hate the sound of a hurt child crying.
Okay, sorry to get all gushy. Now, a child crying wanting a toy at the store... can't hear that at all.

7. I hate the song/songs that occasionally are on my 14YO son's favorite XM station in the car.... you know, the ones where the artist is screaming, swearing major curse words, or lyrics that are demeaning to women. Son has learned to change the station before I can hear the song.

Thanks to [info]brian_ohio for starting this. See, it's not the worst meme in meme history! We LJers love to procrastinate... at least, I do!

Oh, yeah, if you are reading this --- TAG, you're it!

Friday Five

1) We are off to South Bend, Indiana aka Notre Dame this weekend for a basketball tournament. I hear that Notre Dame has a wonderful bookstore. I love bookstores! (Duh!)

2) I just walked into the kitchen and my 16YO daughter was sitting on the counter looking at the clock. Supposedly, if you have your feet up in the air at 11:11 and make a wish, your wish will come true! Hmmm... who knew??? So, of course, I joined her. Not telling my wish, no how, no way!

3) My big high school reunion is in Cincinnati the same weekend as the SCBWI-LA conference. I'm a little sad reading all about the excited people/friends that are going to the conference. Well, actually the words "Ditch the reunion" were said to me yesterday. Whoa, Kevin would kill me if I didn't go to the reunion. Right Kevin? I know you reading this. I would be in big trouble, huh? See guys, I can't play with you all in LA.
But, I'm hoping to connect with my LJ friends in Cincinnati... maybe we can have our own little 'conference'!

4) Today on my other blog Books, Toys, Etc. the topic is Toy Tidbits. Interesting toy news/trends. One of the tidbits is from [info]writergrl's (Sarah Dessen) post today. That's a shameful attempt to get you to link to Books, Toys, Etc.
Did you know that Books, Toys, Etc. is syndicated for livejournal? You can add it to your friends list here. Yes, I know I am shameful!

5) Hmmm... what else? I went to bed last night with a sore throat. This morning, fine. Which leads me to believe that not only am I slightly allergic to honeydew but also cantaloupe. Interesting.

Have a fantastic weekend!

INK Book Blast Give-Away

Here's the nifty flyer I designed for the
INK Spectacular Book Blast Give-Away

Please email me at anna at annamlewis dot com if you would like me to email you the PDF.

Here's the info from Linda's INK blog post:
It's a nonfiction give-away contest of gigantic proportions!

To support the children's nonfiction community, our fifteen published
authors have each agreed to DONATE A SIGNED COPY OF ONE OF THEIR
BOOKS. That's FIFTEEN books all to ONE LUCKY WINNER.

We'd love to hear from teachers, librarians, homeschoolers, writers,
or anyone else from across the country who is promoting nonfiction.

Here are the rules. Each entry must consist of two parts:

1. In one sentence or less, tell us why you read the I.N.K. blog.
2. In as much space as you need, describe what you've done to support
and encourage nonfiction in your classroom, library, home, or
community. Photos are a plus.
We will select the winner based on the strongest, most original and
all encompassing approach to getting nonfiction noticed.

All entries should be submitted by email to:
interestingnonfictionforkids at gmail dot com. We will send you an
email letting you know we’ve received your entry.

Entering the contest implies your consent to use the contents of your
entry on our blog for promotional purposes.

The deadline to enter is Friday, September 5th. The winner will be
announced on the I.N.K. blog.

Good Luck to everyone!

Please pass the word!!!!!

Camp Rock?

I lived through the High School Musical Summer.

I lived through the High School 2 Musical Summer.

And, truth be known, I have been known to put on the CD occasionally.
But...

Camp Rock had it's premier on the Disney channel last night...

It has been on in the family room non-stop since last night.
The words "He's so cute"  have been squealed a few too many times.

I'm beginning to think I may not survive this summer.
Anyone else with me?

Drawing Rabbits

In high school, even though I was shy, I loved jumping up and drawing a few rabbits on the chalkboard before the teacher walked in the room.
The teachers knew it was me and I got an occasional snicker.

Today, I had a checkup at my doctor's office. While I was waiting patiently in my lovely gown for the doctor to come into the room, I noticed a very clean white-erase board on the wall. (Can you guess where this is going?) I immediately thought that the board needed a few rabbits. That little devil on my left shoulder was arguing quite well with the angel on the right shoulder. It was a tough battle but the angel won out... no rabbits on the board.

What do you think? Should I have or not? These characters on my shoulders are still battling it out.

Any thoughts on my new LJ layout?
Is everything working okay?
